Only connect!

“Only connect!” Forster famously pleads in Howards End.  In our opera Helen and Leonard connect singing this powerful fragment from Beethoven in the street after a concert:  “Be embraced, Oh let the whole world share this kiss!”

In the great 1992 film Howards End, Emma Thompson plays a forgiving Margaret to Anthony Hopkins’ penitent Henry.  In our opera Margaret and Henry struggle to find a way forward in their flawed and compromised relationship.

Helena Bonham Carter was a petulant and troubled Helen in the acclaimed film.  In our opera, Helen’s passion leads her in a bold new direction.

Sara Duchovnay as Helen takes one of her many snapshots of Leonard (Michael Dailey)
